New appointment to Family Court announced

  • ​New magistrate appointed to the Family Court of Western Australia
  • Andrew Mackey will fill the position effective from July 29, 2019
  • Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Mackey as a magistrate of the Family Court of Western Australia.

    As stated by Attorney General John Quigley:

    “Mr Mackey was admitted to practice in Western Australia in March 1995 and in New South Wales in April 2002.

    “Mr Mackey brings over 20 years of legal experience to the Family Court of Western Australia.

    “Mr Mackey has appeared as trial counsel in jury trials in Western Australia in a range of criminal law matters, provided advice and representation to adult and juvenile offenders in respect of breaches of parole, suspended imprisonment and community-based orders and appeared as a criminal duty lawyer dealing with a high volume of matters.

    “For almost 10 years Mr Mackey worked at Legal Aid WA, in a number of positions, including as solicitor in charge of a number of regional offices and as a family lawyer in the family law division.

    “Mr Mackey subsequently moved to Victoria and joined their Legal Aid where he practiced as the managing lawyer of the Barwon regional offices as a senior advocate, family and children’s law.

    “Since returning to Western Australia in March 2017, Mr Mackey has practiced in family law at Legal Aid WA and as an acting magistrate of the Family Court from October 2017 to October 2018.

    “I congratulate Mr Mackey on his appointment and wish him well in his new role.”
