A former Acting Chief Executive of the North West Hospital and Health Service has been appointed as a member of its Hospital and Health Board.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said former Chief Executive Mr Terry Mehan would join the North West Hospital and Health Board.

Mr Miles said Mr Mehan is an internationally recognised health care leader with more than 40 years’ experience in health system management, spanning three Australian states and overseas including Papua New Guinea and Tonga.

He is the Principal of health and management consultancy Terry Mehan and Associates.

“Mr Mehan is no stranger to the North West as he served as Acting Chief Executive of the Health Service in 2016,” Deputy Premier Miles said.

“He has also been Acting Chief Executive of the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service, Administrator of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and former Chief Executive of the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

“He has had wide experience in senior health management roles, including a period as a Deputy Director-General of Queensland Health and on executive leadership teams for a wide range of nongovernment agencies.

“He is an experienced leader with specialist expertise in health service management, delivery and planning, strategic planning and Indigenous, rural and remote health.

“He will be a significant asset to the North West Hospital and Health Board under the continuing strong leadership of Chair Mr Paul Woodhouse.”
