Council is delighted to announce the talented artists who have been selected for our Artist in Residence program.
The program is designed to support artists in progressing their current practice and/or project goals, providing time, space and resources to make the next steps in their artistic development.
The artists were chosen from a pool of highly-accomplished and diverse applicants representing a wide range of artistic disciplines.
The three successful applicants for the Nillumbik Artist in Residence program are:
- Ale Prunotto, 26: Literary Artist (Writer) in Residence at Yarra Plenty Regional Library
Ale will be working on a book about parkour, an urban movement discipline that involves engaging creatively and efficiently with obstacles.
- Hana Zreikat, 32: Performing Artist in Residence at Living & Learning Nillumbik
Hana will create a new performance piece inspired by her cultural heritage.
- Nicholas Currie, 21: Visual Artist in Residence at Edendale Community Environment Farm
Nick will create new work across several art forms for future exhibitions, including the Archibald Prize.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said the selection committee was impressed by the calibre and quantity of applications received, and the commitment shown by each artist to engage with the local community during their residency.
“We know artists need a creative space to work, and that many don’t have a separate space, or the resources to dedicate a time just to their practice,” Cr Ramcharan said.
“Congratulations to the successful artists.”
Residencies will run from mid-July until the end of March 2024.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to attend a workshop, artist talk or an event during the artist’s residency.
