From the week starting Sunday, 2 March 2025, most properties in Georges River will have a new bin collection day.
All properties (domestic and commercial) using Council waste services will receive a letter and a sticker on their bin lid confirming their collection day, whether it changes or stays the same. Look out for these in your mailbox and on your bin lid during January and February 2025. Please be aware that letters and bin stickers will be progressively delivered throughout the community, and this process may take up to eight weeks.
If you are keen to learn of the improvements in the waste services at your property before you receive your letter and bin sticker, you can check Council’s website for specific updates in Council’s .
Strata or building managers will also be informed about any changes for multi-unit buildings with shared bins during January and February 2025.
These waste service improvements are a result of Georges River Council commencing a new waste collection contract during the 2024/25 financial year. As part of this contract, a new fleet of waste collection vehicles was rolled out in December 2024. These vehicles have advanced safety features and will offer quicker services for bulky waste, illegal dumping, public litter bin collections, and any missed services.
Bin collections will now operate over five days instead of three and is the reason that you may have a change to your usual bin collection day. This updated schedule aims to streamline waste services across the former Hurstville and Kogarah areas, ensuring resources are used more efficiently and effectively.
These service improvements aims to make waste collection smoother, faster, and a more reliable service for everyone. Council is also committed to reducing the wait time for missed bin collections to just 1-2 days after being reported.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “We are committed to creating a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable community. This new waste collection contract helps us to Keep Georges River Beautiful.
“While some households may experience a change in their bin collection day, these improvements will ensure better long-term outcomes for all residents. We thank everyone for their patience and support as we roll out these updates.”
