New Board Chair Appointed To Worksafe Victoria

VIC Premier

The Victorian Government has appointed Mr Robert Cameron as the new Chair of WorkSafe Victoria.

Mr Cameron’s significant experience in government, legislative reform, board management and stakeholder and community engagement will help strengthen the WorkSafe Board.

Mr Cameron joins WorkSafe at a critical time as it supports businesses recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, manages rising mental injury claims, overhauls the management of complex claims and addresses the impacts of sexual harassment in workplaces.

Mr Cameron has served for more than a decade on a range of Victorian boards.

His positions include Chairperson of the Boards at Bendigo Health, Coliban Water, Central Victorian Skillshare and Mildura Base Hospital, and as a former member of the boards at Bendigo Emergency Housing, Bendigo Region Alcohol and Drug Service and Bendigo Law Association.

A former member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Bendigo West, Mr Cameron served as a Victorian Government Minister in various portfolios from 1999 until 2010 including WorkCover, Police, Emergency Services, Corrections, Local Government and Agriculture.

Mr Cameron holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

As stated by Minister for Workplace Safety Ingrid Stitt

“I would like to congratulate Mr Cameron on his appointment as Chair of WorkSafe Victoria. I look forward to working with him to keep Victorian workplaces safe and to support injured workers to recover and return to work.”
