New Campaign To Fight For Victoria’s Fair Share

  • Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is standing up for Victorians, launching a hard-hitting new campaign for a fair share of funding from the Commonwealth Government – no matter who wins next month’s Federal election.

Premier Daniel Andrews joined Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos at the Royal Children’s Hospital today to launch the Our Fair Share campaign, which will run across TV, radio, print and online from Sunday.

The campaign will highlight the multimillion-dollar cuts Canberra is making to our hospitals and schools, despite Victoria being the fastest growing state and home to more than a quarter of all Australians.

Canberra has clawed back $305 million from Victoria’s hospitals – cuts that are hurting patients, nurses and doctors across the state.

That’s the equivalent of 18,452 hip replacements, 593,037 dialysis sessions or 274,651 chemotherapy treatments.

They are also proposing a dud national funding deal that would see public schools get less funding than private schools, with government schools short-changed $500 million in funding every single year.

That’s the equivalent of 1,250 full-time teachers that can’t be funded simply because the Federal Government want to boost their bottom line.

The Labor Government has invested more in Victoria’s schools and hospitals than any government in Victoria’s history – to ensure every child has the best education and every Victorian has access to world-class healthcare.

As the Federal Election gets closer, now is the time for Victoria to fight for its fair share.

As noted by the Premier Daniel Andrews

“Victorians are sick of Canberra putting Sydney first and Victoria second. We deserve our fair share from the Federal Government, whoever wins the election, and that’s what this campaign is all about.”

“Our schools and hospitals need a better deal from the Commonwealth, not more cuts and clawbacks.”

As noted by Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos

“We’re the fastest growing state in the country – our hospitals can’t survive more cuts from Canberra.”

“We’re giving our nurses and doctors what they need to provide the very best care for all Victorians – imagine how much more we could do if we got a fair deal from the Federal Government.”
