Latrobe City Council have entered a Contract with Becon Constructions to design and construct an additional level of parking to the Seymour and Hotham Street Car Park which will result in up to 115 additional spaces at the facility.
This project is being delivered by Latrobe City Council on behalf of the Victorian Government through the Regional Car Parks Fund (RCPF) which is set to deliver 900 new car spaces across Traralgon, Morwell and Moe with over 150 car parks having already been delivered to date in Morwell and Moe.
Construction of the new level will be completed in two stages, with minor works on the ground floor being required to accommodate the construction of the new level.
- Stage One (ground floor works): October – December 2023
- Stage Two (first floor works): January – Mid 2024
Details about each stage of works will be provided to the community in a timely manner including alternating parking arrangement for each stage of works.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan was thankful to the Victorian Government for their investment in local car parking.
“These carparks are vital for Traralgon’s central business district and will result in improved access for commercial, retail, restaurant and café customers when visiting local businesses,” said the Mayor.
“We do expect there will be some minor disruptions during construction, we thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time. This short-term interruption will result in long-term benefits for our economy and liveability, catering for future growth of our City.”
Council acknowledges there will be short term inconveniences to parking availability for local businesses related to this work and is closely working with Becon Constructions to minimise these impacts.
Council will use a SMS registration service to keep the community informed on updates in relation to what works are occurring and any changes to car park access. To register for these text alerts and to review information on the project, please visit Council’s website:
