Local learner drivers have a reason to celebrate as the TAC L2P Program continues to grow in Benalla. With the addition of a new Kia Picanto, generously donated by Ovens Kia and the Value Motor Group, the L2P fleet has now grown to three cars.
Ovens Kia Dealer Principal Neil Petts said it was fantastic young drivers would get to enjoy the features of a new vehicle.
“Not only will the new vehicle allow the mentors and drivers to be comfortable with new features, there are always enhanced safety functions that come with any new model of vehicle.”
The TAC L2P Program is a partnership between local councils and community organisations, the Department of Transport and the TAC. The program is locally delivered by Benalla Rural City Council.
Since 2011, the TAC L2P Program has been assisting Benalla learner drivers under 21 years of age who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the 120 hours driving experience required to apply for a probationary license. In this time, 175 learner drivers have successfully graduated from the program.
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Bernie Hearn applauded the success of the program.
“L2P is a fantastic program, and I am again thrilled to see it further expanding in Benalla.
“With the addition of the new car, the program can accommodate an additional 20 places, and for the first time give young people experience in a manual vehicle,” Cr Hearn said.
