Mildura’s riverfront precinct and areas of the CBD have received a safety boost following the rollout of new CCTV cameras.

Seventeen CCTV cameras have been installed at Victoria Police-identified hotspots in the Mildura CBD and riverfront precinct as part of the project.

Upgraded lighting along Eighth Street shopfront verandas has also been installed between Madden and Orange Avenues in a bid to improve visibility and public safety at night.

Councillor for Community Safety Anthony Cirillo said the $262,500 project was funded through a $234,393 grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program.

“This project was identified in our Community Safety Plan 2015-2020 as a key priority action and it’s great to be able to deliver on this action, which is really about ensuring our community feels safe in some of our more popular areas,” Cr Cirillo said.

“The addition of these 17 CCTV cameras brings the total number to 45 across Mildura, the riverfront precinct and Red Cliffs.

“These cameras are a valuable tool, providing reassurance to our community that these locations are being monitored, as well as acting as a deterrent to would-be offenders.”

Footage from the CCTV network is monitored by Victoria Police and not accessible to unauthorised personnel.
