Moreland City Council is pleased to announce that Ms Cathy Henderson has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Henderson brings a distinguished leadership record in the local government sector where she has held senior executive positions in New South Wales and Victoria.

While living in Sydney between 2012 and 2017, Ms Henderson held a senior executive role at Waverley Council in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and acted as General Manager (CEO) for a period of twelve months. More recently, she has held the position of General Manager Community at neighbouring Darebin City Council.

Ms Henderson has led a wide variety of projects and services during her career, such as reviews to strengthen community and aged care services; developing a ten-year strategic plan for Bondi Beach; leading organisational change, and delivering a ten-year Council financial plan.

“I’m looking forward to working with the community and Councillors to make Moreland an extraordinary place to live, work and play,” said Ms Henderson.

Moreland City Council Mayor, Cr Natalie Abboud, said Council’s chief executive officer recruitment process was extensive and thorough.

“Cathy was chosen from an extremely impressive field of candidates,” said Cr Abboud.

“We are delighted Cathy will be leading our organisation to deliver the final year of our Council Plan and to commence working with the community, mapping our exciting future,” she added.

Ms Henderson said she would like to thank the Mayor and Moreland City Councillors for their confidence in appointing her as their fifth CEO since the municipality was formed in 1994.

“Moreland City Council’s strong commitment to the environment and social justice is second to none. I am delighted to be taking on this role and delivering on Council’s audacious plans,” said Ms Henderson.

Ms Henderson will commence in the role on Monday, 9 December 2019.
