Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan has today announced the appointment of Nils Hay as Chief Executive Officer of the Mid West Development Commission.
Mr Hay has served as the CEO of the Shire of Mingenew since mid-2018, leading a team delivering critical services for the region.
He brings with him senior leadership experience across the public sector in Western Australia and Queensland, previously working as the CEO of Gulf Savannah Development and as the Deputy CEO of Burke Shire Council in Western Queensland.
An extensive recruitment process was conducted by the Public Sector Commissioner for the role, following which the Public Sector Commissioner recommended the appointment of Mr Hay.
Regional Development Commissions are key to the McGowan Government’s job creating agenda on the ground in regional Western Australia, working to grow and diversify the State’s regional economies.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“The Mid-West has enormous potential to take a big leap forward with new industries and new opportunities for the community.
“The McGowan Government is delivering economic and social investments across the Mid-West to help unlock that potential, and the Mid West Development Commission plays a key role in driving that agenda.
“Nils brings to the role a history of connection to the Mid-West, a relationship with the region’s Aboriginal communities, and a real understanding of the opportunities for the region.
“Importantly, Nils has shown strong and energetic leadership in promoting 21st century industries in the region.
“I thank Anne Finlay for her great work as Acting CEO of the Commission over the past 16 months.”
