New Chair for Metro North Hospital and Health Board

A former Director-General of the Departments of Community Safety, Emergency Services and Justice and Attorney-General has been appointed Chair of the Metro North Hospital and Health Board.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said Mr Jim McGowan, who has been Chair of the South West Hospital and Health Board since May 2017, would take over from retiring Metro North Chair Emeritus Professor Robert Stable.

Mr Miles said Professor Stable had been Chair of the Metro North Hospital and Health Board since May 2016 and had not sought reappointment.

“I would like to thank Professor Stable for the strong leadership and direction he provided for health services across the Brisbane North and Moreton Bay region during his chairmanship and wish him well for the future.

“I’d also like to welcome Mr McGowan as the new Chair of Metro North.

“In addition to his prior board experience with the South West Hospital and Health Service, he has very extensive executive management experience in government, broad corporate governance knowledge and performance and service delivery improvement expertise.

“In 2015, he led a review of the Queensland industrial relations system and in 2016 he was appointed to lead the Taskforce on Occupational Violence in Hospital and Health Services in Queensland.

“The Metro North Hospital and Health Service will benefit from his experience and skills.”

Assistant Minister for Health and Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said congratulated four members of the Metro North Hospital and Health Board who had also been reappointed, while six others were not up for reappointment and retained their positions.

“I am pleased to announce the reappointments of Mr Adrian Carson, Ms Veronica Barry, Mr Geoff Hardy and Professor Mary-Louise Fleming, providing valuable stability to the team,” Ms Boyd said.

“It’s a testament to their past success and ability to work together that the Board is able to provide continuity and performance and remain largely unchanged this year.

“The combination of new skills and perspectives from Mr McGowan, combined with the stability of the reappointments, will maintain the strength of the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

“I congratulate Mr McGowan and the reappointed members and look forward to working with them towards achieving the goal of making Queensland’s health system the best in Australia.”
