Coles’ newest supermarket creates more than 90 jobs
A brand new Coles supermarket will be unveiled to customers in the rejuvenated Richmond Traders Shopping Precinct today, heralding the rebirth of the iconic Bridge Road retail site as a must-visit shopping destination.
The new Coles supermarket forms part of a wider development of the Richmond Traders shopping precinct and will offer customers a host of convenient and innovative shopping options.
In addition to the new Coles supermarket, the makeover of this iconic retail precinct also marks the opening of Richmond’s favourite bottle shop, Vintage Cellars.
The new Vintage Cellars store features The Vault, a specially designed space for ultra premium wine and spirits, along with Vintage Cellars’ hallmark collection of local and overseas wines and an expanded selection of craft beer – a favourite with Richmond locals.
At Coles Richmond Traders, sweet-toothed customers looking for a sugar fix will be delighted to find a dessert bar complete with premium mochi, mini gelato and macarons. Canine companions will not be forgotten either, with a brand new pet treat station offering local pups a host of tasty treats.
Customers will enjoy access to an open-front bakery with gourmet sourdough bread, an extensive patisserie range and celebration cakes. Coles Richmond Traders also boasts an extensive fresh produce department providing a larger range of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs.
To give customers more choice when completing their shop, self-scanning checkouts with conveyor belts have been installed, making it easier to scan a full trolley-load.
Coles Richmond Traders Store Manager Daniel Huckstepp has been a Coles team member for more than a decade and said the store would be significant for the iconic Melbourne shopping strip.
“We’re so excited to be launching our new store for Richmond residents and welcoming so many brand new team members in the process. We have countless new store features that we know our customers will love,” he said.
“We can’t wait to welcome 92 brand new team members to the store. We know all our new team members will go above and beyond to create a memorable shopping experience for our customers.”
As part of Coles’ ambition to become Australia’s most sustainable supermarket, Coles Richmond Traders will help work Together to Zero Waste and Together to Zero Hunger, through community partnerships with soft plastics recycler REDcycle and food rescue organisation SecondBite.
To mark the opening, Coles Richmond Traders is donating $2000 to SecondBite partner charity St Mary’s House of Welcome. Coles is also donating $3000 to Richmond West Primary School for their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation project.
Vintage Cellars has served the local community from Richmond for more than two decades and the opening of its revamped store coincides with the launch of the VC Club, Vintage Cellars’ hugely expanded loyalty program with special member-only pricing across the entire Vintage Cellars range.
To celebrate the beginning of this new chapter, Vintage Cellars customers have the chance to win a $1 million bottle of ultra-rare whisky.
From March 2 to April 26, every member of the VC Club who makes a purchase of at least $100 goes into the running to win the bottle of ultra-rare Yamazaki 55 Year Old Japanese Whisky, one of only 100 ever made.
The sale of a single bottle of Yamazaki 55 smashed sales records in 2020, when it sold for $HK6,200,000 ($AU1,075,000).
Vintage Cellars Business Category Manager Ed Scully said: “Vintage Cellars is one of Australia’s best known liquor brands with a rich and proud history that is deeply connected to Australia’s wine industry.”
“Wine will always be a hugely important part of our offering, however Australian drinking trends have evolved in line with the emergence of exceptional craft beers, boutique spirits, and premium global products, such as Japanese whisky,” he said.
“Vintage Cellars customers have always been at the vanguard of fresh trends, whether that’s new wine varieties or the explosion of craft gin in recent years and our reimagined loyalty program has been designed to reflect a broader range of customer preferences.”
Coles Richmond Traders is located at the corner of Bridge Rd and Church St, Richmond, and will officially open to shoppers at 9am on Wednesday 2 March. The store will be open from 6am to 12am daily.
Vintage Cellars is open 9am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am to 10pm Friday to Saturday.
