New Crossing Point at Lake Wendouree

A new crossing point being constructed on the west side of Morrison Street at the intersection with Wendouree Parade will continue to improve access to one of Ballarat’s key destinations.

The crossing point complements a recent road safety overhaul by the State government in the Lake Wendouree/ schools precinct with the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Russell, Sturt and Morrison Streets.

“This additional crossing on Morrison Street will ensure a safe route between Loreto College and the lake and will deliver much needed improvements and loading zone requirements for the school,” Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison said.

“The crossing point is being delivered as part of the Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park Link project which aims to improve the connections and accessibility between the two precincts.”

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said the works in no way reflected the outcome of the Lake Lighting Project and the Planning Permit application.

“This crossing point is a worthy project that is not linked to any permit process.

“We are taking the opportunity to complete the works in the school holidays and will allow due process to take place in the background in terms of the broader Lake Lighting application,” he said.

The approved crossing has been welcomed by the Loreto school community, whose students regularly utilise and move between Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park for activities.
