New Deputy IBAC Commissioner Appointed

  • Special Minister of State

The Andrews Labor Government has appointed David Wolf as the new Deputy Commissioner of the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission.

Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings today made the announcement, with Mr Wolf to join fellow IBAC Deputy Commissioner Katie Miller in assisting the Commissioner Robert Redlich QC.

Mr Wolf was appointed following an extensive selection process and comes to the role with many years’ experience working in the Victorian Public Sector in integrity and regulatory environments.

He is currently the Chief Municipal Inspector for the Local Government Inspectorate.

IBAC’s role is to receive and investigate complaints and notifications of public sector corruption and police misconduct.

It also informs the public sector and the community about the risks and impacts of corruption and police misconduct and how it can be prevented.

Mr Wolf will focus on IBAC’s oversight of Victoria’s public sector, while Ms Miller will focus on police oversight.

His three-year appointment starts on 28 January 2020.

John Lynch will act as the Chief Municipal Inspector while the government recruits Mr Wolf’s replacement.

Dr Lynch has extensive public sector experience in legal and integrity roles and is currently Special Counsel at IBAC. Prior to working at IBAC, Dr Lynch was Crown Counsel for the Victorian Government. Dr Lynch’s acting appointment commences on 28 January 2020.

As stated by Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings

“David Wolf brings a wealth of experience in integrity and regulation – most recently as Victoria’s Chief Municipal Inspector – that will be a valuable asset to IBAC.”

“I would like to thank outgoing Deputy Commissioner Simon Heath for his service to the Commission and public sector integrity.”
