New District Playing Fields In Throsby

District Playing Fields will be constructed on the site previously earmarked for the Throsby ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ of Football to provide another versatile outdoor sporting facility for the growing Gungahlin region.

This change, which enables facilities to be provided more quickly, has been made by the ACT Government due to the decision by Capital Football to withdraw its financial contribution to the project.

A district playing field refers to sporting facilities that serve several suburbs and comprise a number of fields with at least one pavilion. The total area must be at least eight hectares, and provide appropriate lighting and other safety requirements as they are heavily used for night time training.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said the government was committed to delivering more sporting facilities for Gungahlin.

“As our city grows, the ACT Government is committed to delivering more sporting facilities for Gungahlin and across the Territory to help Canberrans stay active, healthy and engaged in the sports they love.

“Project planning for new District Playing Fields in Throsby is currently underway, with public and stakeholder engagement to be undertaken as part of the next phase of the project”, said Minister Berry.

The next step is to undertake detailed design for the District Playing Fields.
