New exhibition brings a burst of colour to Artspace

A vivid new exhibition is now on display at the Maroochydore Library Artspace featuring selected works from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection.

Presented by Caloundra Regional Gallery and Sunshine Coast Libraries, in FULL colour is an exhibition that delves into the holdings of the art collection to explore artists’ use of high-key colour palettes to depict their subjects, including the landscape, people and local produce.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the exhibition offered a unique opportunity for the community to view artworks that have rarely been displayed in public.

“The Sunshine Coast Art Collection aims to reflect and celebrate the character and culture of our region and encourage enjoyment and awareness of the visual arts,” Cr Baberowski said.

“This exhibition features a thematic selection of paintings, photography and mixed media works by 16 contemporary Australian artists including local artists, some from outside the region and previous Sunshine Coast Art Prize winners.

“The curator’s focus for the exhibition is the Sunshine Coast’s environmental diversity and beauty, which is renowned for attracting and inspiring artists to capture the local landscape, flora and fauna.

“The works selected for display are designed to captivate audiences through their vivid colour schemes with renderings of distinct coastal architecture and landmarks such as the rural farmlands and the Glasshouse Mountains, through to contemporary responses around themes of European settlement and the impacts on First Nations people.”

Some of the artists on display include Miles Hall, Paul Calcott, Scott Redford, Matthew de Moiser, Belle Hartnell and Dale Leach.
