- Scitech awarded $571,000 Lotterywest grant towards revamping exhibits
- New attractions built locally to transform gallery at the Scitech Discovery Centre
- Cook Government allocated extra $1 million to support Scitech exhibits
Scitech is set to transform its displays and exhibits thanks to a $571,000 Lotterywest grant and support from the Cook Government.
Science Minister Stephen Dawson welcomed the Lotterywest funding saying it will be used in the design and delivery of 18 new exhibits for the Scitech Discovery Centre to inspire the next generation of scientists.
The new gallery is titled Here, There and Everywhere and will feature three distinct zones where visitors can explore how science and technology is used to solve challenges in the human body, home, community and world.
As a part of this year’s State Budget, the Cook Government allocated an extra $1 million to Scitech with part of this funding boost to be used to create exhibits focused on Western Australian scientists, industries and First Nations science.
This additional funding is on top of the almost $9.5 million the State Government provides to Scitech for support of its community engagement program.
With more than 300,000 people visiting SciTech’s Discovery Centre in the past year, it is a key partner in supporting the State Government’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills strategy, which has been refreshed in 2024.
Here, There and Everywhere is expected to open next year, for more information see: Scitech: Science Exhibitions, Workshops, Shows and More
As stated by Science Minister Stephen Dawson:
“Scitech has been educating minds both young and old in science and technology since 1988 and is a key partner in the Cook Government’s skills strategy to accelerate STEM skills for Western Australians.
“We know that STEM jobs are growing at twice the rate of other jobs with an increase of 85 per cent from 2010 to 2020, with Scitech always serving as a fantastic way to get inspired by the sector.
“This latest Lotterywest grant is a great contribution to Scitech to ensure inspiration and knowledge will be shared for years to come.”
