Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan MP officially opened the new $2.21 million Gracemere Fire and Rescue Station today.
Minister Ryan said the new station was an important emergency response upgrade for the region and would be home to 11 auxiliary firefighters and their urban pumper.
“That’s why we invested more than $2 million into replacing the original station with a modern spacious facility,” Mr Ryan said.
“The station will assist the critical work of the firefighters by ensuring they have the capacity and capability to support Gracemere’s current and future demand.
“There is an additional engine bay to support the future growth of this station, and this space will store appliances used in the training and development of auxiliary firefighters across Central Region.
“Building modern facilities means the community can feel at ease knowing our fire and emergency services are properly equipped and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
“This building project also boosted the local community with seven jobs created and local contractors engaged for the construction.”
Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said this was another example of the Palaszczuk Government investing in the frontline.
“Our frontline first responders are the people who Queenslanders rely on in times of trouble and they deserve the best facilities.
“This new station services the greater Gracemere area and assists the Rockhampton and Mount Morgan Fire and Rescue Stations when required.
“It’s another boost to the region’s frontline capability and I will always advocate strongly for these investments.”
Central Region Assistant Commissioner Darryl King said 16 ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Emergency Medals for serving during Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017 and the North Queensland Floods in 2019 were also presented.
“These medals recognise the commitment of staff who dedicate their lives to serve and protect Queensland in times of need,” Mr King said.
“Each of our medal recipients today has given extraordinary service that exceeds the already high standards we expect of QFES personnel.
“The dedication and loyalty of these recipients to serving their community in times of need is exemplary.”
