A new 30,000 litre diesel fuel tank arrived this morning at the Port of Apollo Bay for use by Apollo Bay’s fishermen to refuel their vessels in this working harbour. The new tank in its new location will allow for improvements to be made at the Harbour as part of Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment project.
The tank will sit on the wharf, next to the refuelling station, and will be a great new asset for the Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-operative (the Co-op) and users at the port.
Jointly funded by the Co-op, who will own the tank and new wharf-side bowser cabinet, and the Geelong City Deal funded Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment project who have paid for the relocation as part of the improvements to the Harbour, the new fuel tank will be up and running next week.
The old 20,000 litre fuel tank that is currently located in a fenced compound within the Mother’s Beach car park will be decommissioned and removed. The old tank was getting past its use by date, and the new tank will ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and Australian Standards in relation to storage and handling of dangerous goods (diesel fuel) and environmental protection.
The relocation of the tank out of Mother’s Beach car park supports the proposed new works being delivered at the Harbour by the City Deals project to upgrade the carpark and increase car parking bays.
The Port of Apollo Bay consultative committee have assisted with advice in relation to the new diesel tank project.
