Work on the new Gorricks Run Causeway in Upper Macdonald has been finalised and the causeway is now open.
The $1.25m project to replace the causeway, which had been badly damaged in repeat floods, was completed with Infrastructure Recovery funding from the State and Federal Governments.
Although it’s one of our more isolated stretches of road, the Gorricks Run Causeway is still a critical connection for numerous nearby and otherwise isolated residents.
Construction included a new concrete foundation, installing prefabricated box culverts, rebuilding the causeway deck and approach roads on either side, demolition of the existing causeway, protection of the embankment with rock, grass seeding for erosion control and new signs and guideposts. The new structure is more enduring and resilient than the previous causeway, increasing the overall resilience of the Upper Macdonald community.
It is one of three major roads recovery projects Council has been working on, the others being Thomas James Bridge and the Cornwallis Riverbank and Drain Restoration. Council is also continuing to rehabilitate numerous flood- and weather-damaged roads right across our LGA.
