Another 23 Graduate Paramedics have joined Ambulance Tasmania as the Tasmanian Liberal Government continues to bolster staffing and resources.
With 10 Graduate Paramedics in the South, 8 in the North, and 5 in the North West, the cohort provides a boost to frontline services and will play an important role in delivering timely and high-quality emergency care to Tasmanian communities.
The graduates started their journey to becoming fully qualified paramedics earlier this month with a six-week induction course, which will be followed by an 11-month intern program of supervised practice, including rotations across the three regions.
Premier and Minister for Health Jeremy Rockliff welcomed the new paramedics and said providing a supportive pathway for graduate paramedics in Tasmania was critical to building the workforce of the future and delivering the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
“I congratulate and welcome the 23 new Graduate Paramedics who were successful in applying for the State-wide Graduate Program and wish them all the best as they embark on their new career,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Paramedics play such an important role in our health system by providing life-saving and emergency care to Tasmanians in their time of need.
“Supporting the education and development of our future paramedics is crucial as we continue to grow Ambulance Tasmania and meet the needs of expanding communities.”
“The 23 new graduates join the 220 paramedics and dispatch officers that our Government has employed since 2014, including the 59 new paramedics since 2021 alone.”
These graduates will now receive high-quality training and mentorship from our Paramedic Educators and their new colleagues.
This latest group of graduates is also the first to take part in AT’s new Graduate Buddy Program where each graduate is paired with a Peer Support Officer for their entire intern year.
The Graduate Buddy Program provides each graduate with a point of contact outside of direct leadership and management who can provide one-on-one support, encourage positive mental health, and facilitate direct access to support services if required.
Since coming to Government, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has employed an additional 220 paramedics and dispatch officers.
