Council staff and volunteers have been busy reconstructing the fifteenth green at the Leeton Golf Course.
The project is being funded under Council’s 2021/22 capital budget program with the opening of the new green expected in early December.
Council’s Course Superintendent Scott Manuel said this is an exciting development for golfers with the finished result set to deliver a much better playing experience.
“The new green is around 20 per cent larger and has a more consistent soil profile,” said Scott Manuel.
“The installation of new drainage will assist staff with improving and maintaining the overall health of the green.
“Golfers will notice the difference in how the green plays especially as there will be no competing couch grass that has been an ongoing issue for many years and makes surface preparation difficult,” he said.
Council’s Manager Open Space and Recreation Josh Clyne said a lot of work has been put in by volunteers and Council staff over the past few weeks to make the project possible.
“I would like to extend my thanks to the many volunteers and staff who have done a tremendous job in reconstructing the new green,” said Mr Clyne.
“We’re in the final stage where the Bent Grass is establishing and the finishing touches to the surrounds are being put in place.
“Golf has been growing in popularity, particularly in the last eighteen months and it’s great that experienced and new golfers can soon enjoy the new green,” he said.
