An emergency wildlife rescue vehicle that will provide critical care quickly to injured, orphaned and sick native animals has been provided to Wildcare Australia by City of Gold Coast.
Mayor Tom Tate, who today officially handed over the keys of the former City fleet vehicle, said the City’s $100,000 investment was an important step in protecting native wildlife.
“Wildcare Australia rescues more than 8000 animals every year, with this vehicle a critical addition to enhance the care and management of animals in need,” Mayor Tate said.
“We know wildlife volunteers use their own vehicles which are often not fit for purpose which can make transportation difficult. This is not just a vehicle it’s a lifeline for these animals.”
Mayor Tate said the vehicle would also be an educational tool to inspire the next generation of wildlife carers.
Karen Scott from Wildcare Australia said this vehicle marked a significant advancement in providing timely rescue and transport services for Gold Coast wildlife in need of veterinary care.
“This initiative will also help alleviate the financial strain on our dedicated wildlife volunteers, who tirelessly commit their time to rescuing sick, injured, and orphaned animals. The Wildcare Team is excited to get the vehicle on the road.”
The Wildlife Rescue Vehicle is a signature action under the Gold Coast’s Our Natural City Strategy 2032 which will see the City continue to focus on delivering projects that restore our environment, protect our precious wildlife and their habitat and provide more experiences for people to enjoy nature.
Wildcare Australia is a non-for-profit volunteer organisation that rescues and cares for sick, injured, orphaned and displaced native wildlife with the intention of returning them to the wild.
Wildcare Australia has a team of trained wildlife rescuers and carers, which are on call 24-7 to support our native wildlife when they need help.
