New lighting at the Bendigo Regional Athletics Complex will be officially turned on by Greater Bendigo Deputy Mayor Cr Matt Emond and the Member for Bendigo East the Hon Jacinta Allan on Saturday March 14 while the complex hosts the Victorian Masters Championships with athletes from around the state in attendance.
The $260,500 lighting project has been funded by $125,500 from the City of Greater Bendigo, $100,000 from the Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and $35,000 from Athletics Bendigo.
City of Greater Bendigo Deputy Mayor Cr Matt Emond said the new lighting meets the standards required for track and field competition level events and is an important addition to the complex.
“The new lights will help attract more State events and titles to Bendigo and will allow local clubs to hold events in the evening on days of high temperature which is great news, because in the past these events would have been cancelled,” Cr Emond said.
“The new lights will also mean the facility can be used as a soccer training facility during the athletics club’s off season.”
“The City is committed to investing in local facilities that encourage residents to be active and healthy and that help us to attract events to our region.
“Council is very appreciative of the funding assistance we have received from the Victorian Government and Athletics Bendigo towards the project.”
