New multimillion-dollar facilities open at Collie Senior High School

  • $7.5 million election commitment to upgrade Collie Senior High School completed
  • Collie Senior High School upgrade increases capacity for an extra 130 students
  • Premier Mark McGowan, Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray today officially unveiled Collie Senior High School’s new $7.5 million facilities.

The newly completed secondary school upgrade is one of the McGowan Government’s key election commitments for the town of Collie.

First promised by the former Government at the 2013 election, the project was delayed for a number of years before finally being officially scrapped by then-Education Minister Peter Collier in 2016.

The McGowan Government committed at the 2017 election to complete the $7.5 million project.

Facilities include eight additional classrooms – two for inclusive learning and one specifically for information and communications technology (ICT) – a commercial kitchen and café for hospitality students, and an upgrade to the arts area.

These upgrades complete construction works of the school’s facilities, which have also included the 2019 reconfiguration of a workshop into a first-class science, technology, engineering and mathematics laboratory.

Collie Senior High School has more than 500 secondary students from Years 7 to 12. The newly completed upgrades provide capacity for an additional 130 students.

In the 2018-19 State Budget, the McGowan Government committed almost $100 million to upgrade regional schools across the State.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“I am pleased to see these upgrades to Collie Senior High School facilities are now complete. This was a key election commitment for Collie, and the new, modern facilities will benefit local students for years to come.

“In the last State Budget, my Government committed almost $100 million to upgrade regional schools across our State to ensure every student has access to the best possible education, regardless of where they live.

“Our Government is investing unprecedented funds into Collie to ensure to town has a strong future and local families are provided with first-class services.”

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“The new upgrades will allow students at Collie Senior High School to thrive in a dynamic and modern learning environment.

“The multimillion-dollar facilities will provide future generations with the best possible education and benefit the local community immensely.”

As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:

“Collie Senior High School is such a vital facility for my community. It has a proud history, with outstanding teachers and staff.

“It is particularly pleasing to be part of the Government that has delivered this important project after years of broken promises and delays for the people of Collie. This is a huge win for local families.

“This is just another example of the McGowan Government working hard to secure the future of Collie.”
