Beam Mobility has joined the City of Perth’s E-scooter Share Scheme (ESS) trial, after Bird Rides ended its Western Australian operations.
The ESS launched in March 2023 with Bird Rides and Neuron Mobility, after an exhaustive tender process which also identified suitable backup options should one of the operators exit the trial.
Since the trial’s launch more than 250,000 e-scooter rides have been taken within the City of Perth.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said he was looking forward to witnessing the trial’s continued success.
“I’d like to welcome Beam Mobility to the City of Perth, as it joins Neuron Mobility as part of our e-scooter trial” Mr Zempilas said.
“Having two brands of e-scooters available is important to us to ensure riders have choice, it also keeps the brands competitive ensuring the best deal for residents, workers and visitors looking to scoot in the City,”
Beam comes to the City with plenty of local experience, having already rolled out e-scooter operations in eight other Western Australian local government areas.
E-scooters can be hired from more than 145 designated sites across the City of Perth.
Both Beam and Neuron e-scooters are fitted with geofencing technology, which will keep the e-scooters where they’re supposed to be, and keep them out of no-ride zones like the Murray and Hay street malls, and Forrest Place.
In WA, the government regulated speed for e-scooters is 25 km/h. Within the City, e-scooters will be able to travel at up to 25 km/h on roads and 10 km/h on footpaths.
E-scooters won’t be permitted on roads with a centre line or median strip, or roads where the speed limit for vehicles exceeds 50 km/h.
