Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today announced a new day to recognise parents, grandparents and other school community members for supporting Western Australian public schools.
Led by the Western Australian Council of State School Organisations (WACSSO) – the body which represents public school Parents’ and Citizens’ Associations, the first-ever ‘P&C Day’ will be held on July 26, 2019.
School communities around the State are being encouraged to mark the occasion with local events and celebrations, to thank the many thousands of school community volunteers supporting public schools.
The Minister and WACSSO also announced two new online resources. One resource will guide principals through a process to develop, strengthen, and maintain effective relationships with their broader school community.
Another online resource is being created to help school community members effectively participate in the selection of principals for public schools.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“The annual P&C day is a day to acknowledge the contribution parents make to WA public schools.
“Schools are at the heart of our communities and the many parents and school community members who get involved to support children’s education are the heartbeat.
“From running the canteen, to organising school community social events, and managing fundraising efforts – including the beloved election day ‘democracy sausage’ sizzle – P&C members do an amazing job supporting their local schools.
“The most successful schools are the schools that engage students, families and communities in supporting student learning and wellbeing.”
