New parent sessions for local families

The Central Goldfields Shire Maternal and Child Health team will host a series of sessions for new parents in the coming months.

New Parents Group:

Our New Parents Group is a free, weekly, facilitated five week program open to parents under the age of four months (from the start of the group).

Held in a relaxed, supportive environment, the New Parents Group is an opportunity for new parents to gain information and support from a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, as well as the opportunity to meet other first time parents in the area.

Sessions dates:

  • Group 1 – every Monday from 31 August to 5 October from 11am to 12.30pm, via Zoom.
  • Group 2 – every Monday from 9 November to 14 December from 11 to 12.30pm, location TBC.

The sessions will cover a range of topics and will be led by the wants and needs of the group: Sleep and changes with sleep from birth to 4 years of age; First aid and emergencies; Starting foods – an additional session, the ‘eat and grow’ groups; Birth debrief and maternal health; Getting to know your baby, baby massage; Baby’s ages and stages – what to expect; Keeping your child safe; Teeth; Returning to paid work; Play; Communicating through music and books; and Where to from here.

Eat and Grow:

Thinking about introducing your baby to food but not sure where to start? The Eat and Grow sessions are a free, one-off information session open to parents with a baby aged between four and six months of age.

Held in a relaxed and supportive environment the Eat and Grow sessions provide parents with information and guidance about introducing your baby to food for the first time.

Session dates:

  • Session 1 – Monday 24 August, 11am to 12.30pm, via Zoom.
  • Session 2 – Monday 19 October, 11am to 12.30pm, location TBC.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said becoming a parent for the first time is one of the most exciting times in your life but it doesn’t come without its challenges.

“Our Maternal and Child Health team is there to support our local families and it’s great to see these two important parenting opportunities on offer.
