A new mountain bike track, skate park and adventure playground are proposed as part of a stunning new parkland in Box Hill.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said the three-hectare site will be transformed into an exciting district-level park known as Rainforest Street Reserve – and residents are invited to have their say on Council’s plans.
“Rainforest Street Reserve will be the largest passive reserve in Box Hill,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“Box Hill is growing, and infrastructure like parks and playgrounds are just as important as roads and pathways to ensure our new communities can thrive.
“It will be a vibrant and attractive space where local families and visitors can relax, run or ride. It has a multi-storey children’s playground with slides, climbing structures and viewing platforms. There is also a swing set with basket and toddler swings, a flying fox, a large climbing frame, sensory equipment and more.
“A highlight of this facility will be the skate park, which will undoubtedly be popular with The Hills community. The junior and senior mountain bike tracks will also be very popular with our residents.
“Plans also include picnic areas with barbecues, pathways, and turf areas perfect for informal sports like backyard cricket or relaxing amongst nature.
“The plans look absolutely magnificent – I couldn’t be any prouder to present them to the community.
“It also demonstrates our commitment to providing new facilities in our release areas, such as Box Hill, and to ensuring our residents have access to great green and active spaces.”
Rainforest Street Reserve will be located next to The Water Lane Reserve sports complex, which will be home to AFL fields and athletics.
Residents can view the Draft Landscape Master Plan and submit a response via Council’s website, , under the ‘Have Your Say’ tab.
“Your feedback will be invaluable in helping to shape what will be an incredible asset for our community for many years to come,” Mayor Gangemi added.
Submissions close at 4pm on Friday 26th May 2023.
