New parking arrangements for this weekend’s AFL and AFLW matches at Wagga’s Robertson Oval are now in place after recent steady rainfall affected the Bolton Park precinct.
Wagga Wagga City Council inspected the Bolton Park fields this morning and concluded they will still be too wet to accommodate car parking for patrons attending the games on Saturday (7 March) and Sunday (8 March).
Council is encouraging people to park at nearby parking areas where bus services will run to Robertson Oval at regular intervals in the lead-up to the games.
Parking and bus services will be available from Wagga Beach carpark on Johnston Street, and from Tarcutta Street adjacent to the Cross Street carpark, for both Saturday and Sunday games.
On Sunday, buses will also run from Kooringal Mall, Tolland Shopping Centre and Southcity Shopping Centre.
Bus services will then be available to return to the carparks after the games.
Council Strategic Asset Planner Ben Creighton said the recent rain event was welcomed across the region but had affected parking arrangements for the Festival of Footy this weekend.
“Given the current weather conditions, we have enacted our contingency plan for parking and we thank all patrons in advance for their patience and understanding in getting to and from the ground,” Mr Creighton said.
“We have a number of buses which will run regular services between Robertson Oval and the carparks. It’s only a short distance to the ground from these pick-up points, so if people miss one bus, then another will be close behind and the wait should be minimal.
“We had to make the decision today so alternative arrangements could be put in place with the bus company and also give patrons time to plan their trip into the CBD.
“There is also the opportunity to walk to the ground from the CBD carparks if that suits people’s plans.”
All buses will have low floor access. Disability access parking will still be available at the northern end of Fitzhardinge Street, off Morgan Street.

SATURDAY 7 March
Main game starts 5.10pm
Bus services will operate between 1.30pm-5.30pm before the game and between 7.30pm-8.30pm after the game.

SUNDAY 8 March
Main game starts 12.40pm
Bus services will operate between 11am-1pm before the game and between 2.30pm-4.30pm after the game.
