The Albanese Government’s Social Housing Accelerator will build more than 110 homes for Tasmanians who need them.
As part of the $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator, the Tasmanian Government has received $50 million from the Commonwealth to deliver these additional homes.
All the Commonwealth funding for these homes must be committed by Tasmania by 30 June 2025.
This is another example of the Albanese Government working with the Tasmanian Government to build more homes.
This includes a minimum of 1,200 homes for Tasmania through Housing Australia.
A joint partnership is also delivering up to 181 social and affordable homes in North West Tasmania with residents already moving into new homes.
Today’s announcement builds on the Albanese Government’s new $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and agreement by ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Cabinet to deliver the most significant housing reforms in a generation.
This agreement includes a new national target to build 1.2 million new well‑located homes under the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Housing Accord, the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Planning Reform Blueprint, and A Better Deal for Renters.
At ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Cabinet, the Albanese Government also committed a further $3 billion to the New ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Bonus to incentivise states and territories to undertake the reforms necessary to reach the 1.2 million well‑located homes target.
A new Housing Support Program will also provide another $500 million to help local and state and territory governments deliver new housing supply in well‑located areas.
