A new vision for Redleap Recreation Reserve is being brought to life, with the redevelopment of the play space set to get underway in the new year.
The play space, located via Redleap Avenue, will include a half basketball/netball court, new play equipment with a focus on nature play, a flying fox, accessible carousel, and an upgraded shelter, equipped with barbecue and picnic settings.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said that the upgrade of the play space at Redleap Recreation Reserve will create an urban retreat in the heart of Mill Park.
“The redevelopment will showcase the reserve’s beautiful natural landscape and create an inviting park where the community feels safe and welcome,” Ms Wilson said.
“The equipment and nature play elements will cater for different ages and abilities to ensure that the park is adaptable for our young residents as they grow.”
The transformation of the play space is just one of the many improvements to the popular reserve highlighted in the site’s master plan, which was co-designed with the local community to help guide short and long-term improvements.
A spacious dog off-leash area was constructed, and the three-bay practice cricket nets were upgraded at in 2020 as part of the first phase of the master plan actions.
Construction of the play space will start in March 2022 and is expected to be complete by August 2022.
Peter Hopper Lake at Redleap Recreation Reserve has been temporarily fenced off while Council works to improve the water quality and restore the condition of the lake.
