Visitors to Flinders St East now have access to five new public toilets on Townsville’s nightlife strip.
The toilets are open seven days a week and are replacing demountable toilets that were previously at the Flinders St East carpark.
Division 3 representative, Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney, said it was a great update to Flinders St East.
“The image of our city is extremely important to Council. Adding permanent public toilets into a shopfront space below Rambutan means visitors to the area will have easily-accessible public toilets seven days a week,” Cr Greaney said.
Councillor Russ Cook said it was a much-needed addition to the area.
“Council is looking to open the toilets for 24 hours a day from Friday to Saturday each week, ensuring there is easy access to public toilets when the street is at its busiest,” Cr Cook said.
“Rest & Recovery, which was previously situated in the Flinders St East carpark, will move to the same location as these new public toilets, making them easy to find.”
There are four unisex toilets and one ambulant toilet in the space.
