Please find new Queensland figures showing the community’s suicide concerns and impacts. These are released on World Suicide Prevention Day today to coincide with the release of Suicide Prevention Australia’s inaugural State of the Nation report (see below).
- 60% of Queensland adults report personally knowing someone who has died by suicide – the highest in the nation. That equates to an estimated 2.4 million Queenslanders.
- 1 in 4 Queenslanders (26%) report losing a family member to suicide – by far the highest rate in the nation. That equates to over 1m Queenslanders.
- Over half (54%) of Queenslanders are worried about the impacts of economy on suicide rates, while recording the biggest growth in concern around the impacts of drugs and alcohol (+8% points to 63%) of all states.
- 1 in 3 Queenslanders (30%) report visiting a suicide prevention service on their behalf – or someone else’s.
