Western Downs Regional Council has welcomed 21 trainees and apprentices this month as part of Council’s Early Career program, providing a fantastic opportunity to kick start their careers in the region.
The new intake of trainees and apprentices will spend their time with Council in Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles and Tara and will finish their traineeships and apprenticeships with industry experience and clear career path options.
Spokesperson for Finance, Corporate Services and Business Strategy Councillor Ian Rasmussen said that Council was committed to providing the residents of the Western Downs with career development and employment opportunities.
“This year we welcome trainees and apprentices across several disciplines including diesel fitting, plumbing, parks and gardens, water operations, civil construction, rural services, information technology, and business,” Cr Rasmussen said.
“Council is extremely proud to be able to offer traineeships and apprenticeships to our residents and give them a wonderful opportunity to kickstart their careers in the Western Downs.
“It’s the people that make the Western Downs such a fantastic, vibrant place to live, work and prosper. These traineeships and apprenticeships allow our residents to build valuable skills and qualifications to further their career and further enrich our region”
Disability Business Trainee Sebastian Curtis is a proud advocate for helping the community and said he looked forward to taking advantage of all the amazing opportunities offered by Council.
“Having this opportunity to gain a qualification that will help me in my future career path is incredible, and I can’t wait to get started and make the most of it,” Mr Curtis said.
“I’ve got a fantastic support network by my side, and with their guidance I hope to gain new skills, meet new people and make connections that I will be able to carry with me wherever my career path takes me.”
Sebastian is due to complete his Certificate Ill Business in early 2023.
This program has proven to be a great success in the past, with twelve 2021 trainees obtaining a full-time role here at Western Downs Regional Council and 5 obtained positions within the community.
