Indigo Shire has appointed leading specialists to develop comprehensive concept plans for the Rutherglen Silos Precinct project and the Chiltern Destination Playground.

The work being undertaken by Urban Enterprise & Public Realm (Rutherglen Silo Precinct) and Playce P/L (Chiltern Destination Playground) will include extensive community and stakeholder engagement.

Council successfully received support for each project from the Victorian Government’s Investment Fast Track Fund.

The Rutherglen community has been a principal driver of the Silo Precinct project since 2012. The work to be undertaken by Urban Enterprise & Public Realm will deliver fully costed, ‘shovel ready’ plans for the transformation of a currently underutilised and unattractive industrial area into a space adjacent to Rutherglen’s main street.

Early discussions have included the potential for festivals and events, light projections, art installations, live performances and a beautiful trail head for the Rutherglen Wine Walk Cycle Trail.

Playce P/L will create concept masterplans for a Chiltern Destination Playground which will be a landmark, high profile and aesthetically beautiful tourism drawcard for Chiltern.

The playground concept development work will consider multiple connected hubs around the Chiltern Goods Shed, Lake Anderson and connection to the town centre via Martins Park.

Based on comprehensive community consultation, the plans will highlight and celebrate Chiltern’s gold rush history, First Nations cultural sites, the connection to the Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park natural history and conservation, as well as explore the potential for a new cycle pump track adjacent to the refurbished Chiltern Goods Shed.

Details of how the community can get involved and have a say will be released soon.
