New service connects employers and jobseekers in disability sector

  • New job service to ensure the supply of skilled staff to NDIS services
  • Service available from July 1, 2020
  • Tender to be advertised in February
  • As part of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Insurance Scheme’s (NDIS) implementation, the McGowan Government will introduce a new NDIS Job Matching Service to ensure skilled people are connected to the fastest growing sector in Western Australia.

Working closely with the training sector, including Jobs and Skills Centres and Commonwealth employment services, the new service will help NDIS providers fill current and future vacancies.

Jobseekers interested in working in the disability sector will be connected with quality vocational education and training (VET) options. Following graduation, the job matching service will connect jobseekers to NDIS service providers.

Other services will include identifying courses and training opportunities for existing workers to improve skills and help employers access available incentives.

The NDIS Job Matching Service was developed with extensive industry input and in consultation with the State Training Board’s Social Assistance and Allied Health Workforce Steering Committee.

The State Government will continue to work closely with NDIS providers, the WA disability sector and the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Insurance Agency to understand the real impact of these changes as they are implemented.

The tender to source suitable NDIS Job Matching Service providers will be released in February on Tenders WA.

In addition to the NDIS Job Matching Service, the State Government has recently implemented the lower fees, local skills initiative which sees TAFE fees for 34 high priority courses reduced by 50 per cent. Half price courses include the Certificate II in Introduction to Disability Care and the Certificate IV in Disability.

For more information on lower fees, local skills and a full list of half price courses visit or contact your local Jobs and Skills Centre on 13 64 64.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“The McGowan Government is upskilling Western Australians and supporting the disability sector when it needs it most.

“Through the NDIS Job Matching Service we are ensuring there are more local skills, and more local jobs.

“From July 1, 2020, the NDIS Job Matching Service will link employers with jobseekers, including our highly skilled VET graduates, to fill current vacancies and identify future skills need.”

As stated by Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson:

“This strategy is an important part of our forward planning and preparedness to meet the workforce needs of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Insurance Scheme in Western Australia.

“We continue to work closely with industry to identify skills priorities and support job creation in Western Australia.

“Importantly this service will help ensure people with disability receive the support they need, when they need it.”
