New South Wales’ Stronger Medicare Award Finalists

Department of Health

Eight individuals and teams, including a chronic disease coordinator, an antenatal clinic, general practitioners, nurses, and heads of practice are New South Wales’ finalists in the Stronger Medicare Awards.

In Medicare’s 40th year, the Stronger Medicare Awards recognise and honour Medicare Champions from around Australia: outstanding individuals and practices that provide exceptional care, embrace innovation, and work together to improve the health of their community.

More than 140 nominations were submitted from every state and territory, which were then assessed by a panel of 5 independent experts from the primary care sector, including a consumer representative.

The 8 New South Wales finalists have been recognised for their significant contributions, including their work with vaccination and respiratory care during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing access to care for disadvantaged communities and people experiencing homelessness.

The New South Wales finalists are:

  • Dong Hua, Practice Principal and Director, Kenyon St Medical Centre
  • Selin Tekirdag, Practice Nurse Manager, Fairfield Chase Medical and Dental Centre
  • Street Side Medics, Volunteer General Practitioners and Nurses
  • Swift Street Medical Antenatal Clinic
  • Dr Chris Boyle, General Practitioner, Raymond Terrace Family Practice
  • Dr Siow Liew, General Practice Owner, Bidwill Family Practice
  • Kayley Meredith, Chronic Disease Coordinator, Coffs Medical Centre
  • Casey Shorter, Practice Manager, Macksville Medical Centre

The finalists will be celebrated, and Medicare Champions announced, at the Stronger Medicare Awards ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra on 4 November 2024.
