A newly redeveloped health centre, opened today by Minister for Defence the Hon Peter Dutton MP in Oakey, will provide Defence with a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility to deliver health care to ADF members.
Minister Dutton said the redevelopment would enhance the delivery of health care to ADF members posted in and around Oakey, ensuring they are fit to fight and fit for life.
“This Centre represents an $18 million investment, providing access to world-class care to both on-base and visiting ADF members, and to visiting international military personnel,” Minister Dutton said.
“Up to 30 highly skilled and dedicated staff including military personnel, public servants and contracted health professionals will deliver integrated primary health care services, dental services, mental health care, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and pharmacy.”
“This centre is an example of how the Morrison Government is investing more than $200 million in new and upgraded health facilities, at 13 priority sites nationally, as part of the Joint Health Command Garrison Health Facilities Upgrade Project.
Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton MP, welcomed the opening of the facility and said the investment was a further demonstration of the Morrison Government’s commitment to Oakey and the wider region.
“We appreciate the important role facilities like Swartz Barracks play in Oakey, which is why our government is making significant investment and delivering support for our hardworking members of the ADF here on the Toowoomba Region,” Mr Hamilton said.
