The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to increasing residential land supply for affordable housing developments.
”It was fantastic to turn the first sod on ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Tasmania’s new 11-lot subdivision in Devonport,” Minister Barnett said.
“Increasing housing affordability by releasing more residential land close to services is a focus of our Government, which this project is delivering.
“A range of lots sizes will be available on the completed site to allow for a variety of homes, such as terrace-style properties, family homes and multi-dwelling developments.
“The subdivision will provide more Tasmanians with the opportunity to buy their own home, with the majority of lots anticipated to be made available for affordable home ownership.
“The site will also provide for social housing and purpose-built homes for people who need support with accommodation.
‘Congratulations to Walters Construction for being awarded the $763,000 civil works contract to provide critical works to enable site development,” Minister Barnett said.
The site is the only Inner Residential-zoned land in the Cradle Coast Region. It is ideally located for residential development, situated on the northern fringe of the Devonport CBD and near commercial, community and public services, local amenities and employment opportunities.
The 1 ha site at 39A North Fenton St was the former home of the Devonport Bowls and Croquet Club. The Tasmanian Government purchased the site for residential housing when the two clubs moved to a new facility in Spreyton and merged with the Devonport Golf Club.
Further consultation will be undertaken with the local community as the design for the site progresses.
This project is part of the Government’s massive 10-year, $1.5 billion housing package – the largest housing investment in the State’s history.
Our plan will deliver 10,000 new social and affordable homes and units by 2032 to meet the diverse housing needs of Tasmanians, including youth, the elderly, those living with a disability, men, women and families.
We also set an ambitious target to deliver 1500 social and affordable homes by June 2023 and we are tracking well with over 800 of these homes completed as at the end of February 2023.
This housing package is being delivered by our newly established ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Tasmania authority which is designed to be more innovative and agile and build these social and affordable dwellings faster to help Tasmanians in need.
