Tourism Council WA welcomes the appointment of new federal Tourism and Trade minister, Senator Don Farrell.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said he was looking forward to working with Senator Farrell to implement the new government’s $48 million federal tourism election commitments in Western Australia, including the $8 million commitment to quality tourism development programs.
“Tourism Council WA will work with the new federal tourism minister to implement the $8 million commitment to develop accredited and award-winning tourism businesses in WA,” Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said.
Senator Farrell’s election commitments also included $10 million for marketing to attract workers to tourism and $10 million to assist businesses back into international markets.
“The delivery of these commitments by the new Federal Government will assist WA tourism businesses recover following years without international visitors and difficulties attracting staff,” Mr Hall said.
“We will work with the new Federal Government on the WA tourism industry’s outstanding policy priorities, particularly climate change and attracting international visitors, backpackers, and students to travel and work in Australia.”
Tourism Council WA welcomes the appointment of additional Western Australian positions to the ministry including:
- Anne Aly, Minister for Early Childhood Education and Youth
- Matt Keogh, Minister for Veterans Affairs and Defence Personnel
- Madeleine King, Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia
- Patrick Gorman, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister
Tourism Council WA will work with the Prime Minister and Patrick Gorman MP to deliver the $50 million election commitment for an Aboriginal Culture Centre in Perth.
“The Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Perth was one of Tourism Council WA’s top federal advocacy priorities. We look forward to working with the Federal Government to progress this project,” Mr Hall said.
“We anticipate a productive future working with the new ministers on local issues regarding Western Australia’s tourism industry.”
