New Tower For Water And Sewer Network

Kempsey Shire Council

A new communication tower will be installed in the Kempsey Shire Council Civic Centre car park as part of an overall upgrade to Council’s water and sewer electrical network.

The installation process will take four days, from the afternoon of Thursday 20 June until Sunday 23 June. Another similar tower will be installed at the Council depot the following week.

The communication tower is part of a broader upgrade to the Operational Network, consisting of a total of 11 sites.

KSC is building a brand-new network to cover the entire Shire, from the coastal villages to Kempsey to Bellbrook, to replace the existing one which is at the end of its useful life.

The new network will have a protective factor called ‘dual redundancy’ which means that if a link is lost the network will still run as it can feedback through itself, preventing system failure.

Speed, reliability, and the ability to capture and send operational data are key features of the new network, which will be used to inform better decision making.

In other features, the new network includes state-of-the-art cyber security measures which will protect the network against cyber-attacks on our water and sewer infrastructure.

The system also includes up to 72-hour battery back up to ensure all sites can be monitored for safe drinking water, even those that may be cut off because of a natural disaster such as a flood or a fire.
