To help Victoria’s quarries keep up with increasing demand, a new unit within Resources Victoria has been established to help operators access additional resource.
The Resources Victoria Approvals Coordination unit will support quarry operators to obtain the approvals needed to develop these vital resources.
During its eight-month pilot phase, the approvals coordinator helped targeted quarries unlock more than 40 million tonnes of additional resources, including sand for concrete production and hard rock for road construction and maintenance.
In 2021-22, Victoria achieved record state-wide quarry production, reaching more than 70 million tonnes. The Resources Victoria Approvals Coordination unit will help ensure affordable supply of quarry-based construction material is available to meet the demand for new housing and vital infrastructure.
