The Victorian Government will continue its focus on building strong business, trade, investment and cultural relations across the world following the appointment of a new Commissioner for Victoria to Southeast Asia.
Rebecca Hall will soon become Victoria’s new Commissioner to Southeast Asia, bringing more than 20 years of experience in global engagement, industry policy and strategy to the role.
Most recently Ms. Hall formed part of the Austrade senior leadership team as Head of the International Education Centre of Excellence, working across Austrade’s global network to promote and support Australia’s international education sector.
She has previously worked in the Victorian and Queensland state governments and held senior roles in the not-for-profit and education sectors as well as industry bodies such as the International Education Association of Australia, Australian Institute of International Affairs and AFS Intercultural Programs Australia.
Southeast Asia is Victoria’s second largest two-way merchandise trade partner, worth more than AU$18.8 billion a year, and is fast becoming one of the world’s largest economic regions.
Outgoing Commissioner to Southeast Asia Brett Stevens served Victoria’s interests well in the region during his seven-year tenure and will now go on to become Victoria’s Commissioner to Greater China.
Current Commissioner to Greater China Tim Dillon will assume a new role in July as Victoria’s Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Europe and Israel.
Victoria has the largest network of trade and investment offices among the Australian states with 22 offices established around the world. These include three in Southeast Asia alone, in Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, with another to be opened soon, in Ho Chi Minh city.
