The Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s have Real Solutions to make Melbourne the world’s most liveable city once again.
Federation Square East is the three hectares of land which could be decked, that is currently surrounded by Federation Square to the west, Flinders Street to the north, Batman Avenue to the east and Birrarung Marr Park to the south.
It represents a huge opportunity for urban parkland that abuts Melbourne’s Hoddle Grid.
Therefore, a Matt Guy Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government will provide $5 million for a business case to determine the feasibility and best means to create a new, three hectare city park in the Melbourne CBD that connects Flinders Street with the Yarra River.
This public park could be used as an events space and to and offer significantly improved pedestrian access between the Melbourne CBD, Federation Square and Birrarung Marr.
Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s have Real Solutions to return vibrancy and confidence to Melbourne’s city centre.
“Exploring options to unlock three hectares of open, green space in the heart of our CBD is a Real Solution to boost liveability and vibrancy to Melbourne’s city centre,” Mr Guy said.
Shadow Minister for CBD Recovery, David Southwick, said supporting a new public park for Federation Square East was part of the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s’ plan to make Melbourne the world’s most liveable city once again.
“Melbourne needs a fresh start and new ideas to get back to the place we all know and love,” Mr Southwick said.
“More open space that can host events on the doorstep of our CBD will be an enormous boost and help make Melbourne the world’s most liveable city once again.”
