Chinchilla will be home to the region’s first micro-brewery tourist experience following Western Downs Regional Council’s approval of an expansion of a popular tourist park in the area.
Clover Hill Accommodation and Camping has been approved to expand its Braithwaite Street facility to include a micro-brewery which will also offer the opportunity to taste and purchase products on site.
Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said the development demonstrated confidence in the local economy.
“Council aggressively attracts business and investment opportunities in our region, and this development certainly shows continued confidence in our region as a place to do business,” Cr Smith said.
“The development will be delivered in three stages, with the first to involve the construction of a micro-brewery, undercover entertainment area, internal roadway and car parking. Stage two will involve the delivery of a tourist tasting facility and stage three will involve the construction of ten cabins to expand accommodation options on site.”
Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Events and Regional Promotion Councillor Kylie Bourne said it was exciting to see new tourist ventures setting up in the region.
“Council proactively advances the Western Downs as a tourist destination so we are delighted to see plans for a micro-brewery and expansion of tourist accommodation in Chinchilla, which will also involve the sale of local meat products on site,” Cr Bourne said.
“We haven’t seen this type of development in the region before, and it’s encouraging to see local businesses considering new ways to enhance visitor experiences locally.
“The development will also support local jobs in the region, which is a bonus for business and our economy.”
