Jindabyne residents and businesses can look forward to more efficient waste management services, with Council making preparations for the installation a new weighbridge at the local landfill.
This upgrade will bring an end to the temporary manual calculation of waste disposal charges at Jindabyne Landfill, following the discovery of significant issues with the old weighbridge during routine equipment inspections in 2023.
Construction is well underway, with Council’s team having already completed earthworks for the new weighbridge’s concrete footings. The foundations have now been poured, with the curing process expected to take several weeks due to forecast weather conditions.
The new weighbridge will be installed once the foundations have cured. This upgrade will significantly improve the speed and efficiency of Jindabyne Landfill operations for both business and residential customers.
Council anticipates the new weighbridge will be fully operational in September 2024, with weight-based disposal charges to resume as soon as the new equipment is calibrated and fully brought online.
The temporary disposal charge calculation measures put in place last year have ensured continued access to essential waste management services in Jindabyne, and we look forward to providing an enhanced experience for all landfill users once the new weighbridge is up and running.
Council appreciates the community’s patience and understanding while the weighbridge has been offline.
For the latest updates on this project and other waste management initiatives, residents are encouraged to visit Council’s website or contact our customer service team.
Council remains committed to delivering efficient and sustainable waste management solutions for the Snowy Monaro region and looks forward to the improved service this new weighbridge will provide to the Jindabyne community.
