M1 motorists exiting at Yatala South are getting home sooner and safer after the new, southbound off-ramp opened today.
The northbound off-ramp is expected to open next week.
This milestone in the $82.137 million, jointly funded M1 Pacific Motorway Yatala South (Exit 41) upgrade will increase capacity for the 130,000 motorists using the M1 at Yatala daily.
The 600m-long off-ramps link to recently installed signalised intersections at Cuthbert Drive and Eastern Service Drive as part of the transformation at Exit 41.
They will reduce queueing and improve reliability and safety for commuters and freight.
The new overpass bridge and shared active transport path being built over the M1 is shaping up and expected to be complete early next year.
The left-turn slip from the southbound off-ramp, which will give direct access to the nearby industrial estate, will also be complete early next year.
It will mean heavy and trade vehicles will not need to travel through the interchange, minimising conflict and congestion for all motorists.
The upgrade is funded 50:50 between the Australian and Queensland governments, with the investment estimated to support an average of 179 direct jobs over the life of the project.
