The Territory Labor Government continues to transform our CBD into a vibrant, revitalised green space for locals and tourists to revel in.
A $3.8 million dollar contract has been awarded to Territory business DTA contractors, to deliver the construction of the Liberty Square Revitalisation.
Over 20 local jobs will be created throughout this projects lifetime.
The Liberty Square revitalisation forms part of the Territory Government’s historic Darwin City Deal, delivered in partnership with the Australian Government and the City of Darwin.
The flythrough vision of the project released today showcases the enhanced design of Liberty Square and provides a visual reality of how the area will tie into the wider Civic and State Square Precinct.
The revitalised Liberty Square will create a safe, immersing and pedestrian friendly State Square, with dedicated and accessible parking options to the Supreme Court.
Works are anticipated to commence during August 2023 and are expected to be completed early 2024.
This project proceeds the next major stage of the Civic and State Square Masterplan, which has already seen the following works;
– completion of the State Square underground car park and Native Garden;
– demolition of the former Chan building to create the Chan Lawns;
– redevelopment of the former 90 Bay Parliamentary Carpark to create a green landscape area; and
– construction of the Northern Territory Art Gallery which is currently underway.
